About George Lane

George Lane’s 40-year award winning career spans newspaper management, print and broadcast journalism – as well as lobbying, public, government and media relations consulting.

George works as a government, media and public relations consultant, serving clients that include: Aqua America/Aqua Utilities of Florida (Philadelphia Suburban Water Company); Jackson Memorial Hospital (Marianna); West Florida Electrical Cooperative Association (Graceville); Turner Cattle and Citrus Company (Arcadia); City of Arcadia; The Arcadia Rodeo Association, Sun Coast Media Group ("Charlotte Sun Herald"); Florida Media Inc. of Orlando ("Florida Living Monthly"); B&K Properties of Marianna, and Baptist College of Florida at Graceville.

George has served as communications director of the Florida Department of Commerce and as a communication consultant to the State Comptroller's office. He was also a consultant with Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, The Republican Party of Florida; NUI/City Gas Company, Associated Industries of Florida, IMC/Agrico Phosphate, CMI Phosphate (Brown Greg), Highlands Regional Center Hospital and many others.

Consistent with an early career emphasis in journalism, George has served as a reporter with the "St. Petersburg Times", business and agricultural editor at "Highlands Today", morning show co-anchor and news director at WZZS-FM Radio, and business editor at WTWC-TV in Tallahassee. Other assignments include statewide and capital correspondent/editor with the Kiplinger Florida Newsletter ("The Florida Kiplinger Report"), founder, Publisher of "The DeSoto County Times" and Capital Correspondent with United Press International (UPI). He also was a reporter with WINK-TV News in Fort Myers. George also has contributed as regular weekly business columnist to "Tallahassee Democrat", "The Tampa Tribune", "Charlotte AM", "Bradenton Herald" and other Florida newspapers and magazines. George currently serves is Associate Editor/regular columnist with "Florida Living Monthly" and Talquin Electric Cooperative’s "The Current" magazine .

The long list of George’s contributions to community and church includes service as past president and 33-year member of various Florida Rotary Clubs, public relations committee chairperson and 24-year member of the Florida GOP State Executive Committee, state officer of the Florida Federation of Young Republicans, past Senior Warden, Lay Reader and Vestry Member of the St. Edmund's Episcopal Church and past Pastor Parish Relations committeeman and former member of Chaires United Methodist Church --- currently a active member of Harvest Chapel Pentecostal Church where he serves on the church board.

The list of George’s honors is nearly as long. It includes being selected as Florida Living Monthly’s "Best Florida Columnist" by the readers 2002-03; the 1998 Florida Farm Bureau’s "News Person of the Year" Award, numerous community and Republican Party of Florida state awards and the DeSoto County Chamber of Commerce’s 1983 Citizen of the Year Award. George also has earned several entries in the Who's Who series though the years. George’s publishing credits include “A Pictorial History of Arcadia and DeSoto County”, and “Arcadia and DeSoto County - A Local History”.

George and his wife Libby live in the Chaires Community near Tallahassee, Florida. Libby recently retired after a distinguished thirty-year career the public and private sectors and most recently was named Executive Director of the Tallahassee Lender’s Consortium a non-profit affordable housing financing group. She retired from the state as a division director with the Florida Department of Community Affairs. They have two sons, Josh and Nathan. Josh is career service military and serves with the U. S. Navy at the Pentagon. Nathan is a newspaperman (copy editor) with the "Charlotte Sun-Herald", and lives in North Port, Florida.
